Birthday treat for growing Gateshead customer

Our Team Valley Business Centre  was a hive of activity recently when a special networking event was held to mark the fourth birthday of social media experts I Am You. 

The growing social media management and training company has had its offices at our centre in Gateshead for a little over a year, moving in just a few days before the business turned three years old. Owner Amanda Dixon had planned to hold a third birthday event in 2013, but an unexpected infection during a routine operation left her ill in hospital, meaning the event had to be cancelled.

After last year’s disappointment, I Am You’s 2014 birthday party was even more special for the company.

Network to success

Business Centre Manager, Stacey Normandale, explains that she had been looking to plan a networking event and thought it would be a great idea to combine this with a gathering to mark I Am You’s anniversary.

“We thought it would be really nice to combine the ideas into one big event, especially as Amanda was poorly last year,” Stacey says.

“We put on plenty of food and refreshments and invited all businesses in Team Valley as well as Amanda’s clients and other external businesses. We even had a visit from a company called Tick a Tea Boo’s, which serves tea, coffee and homemade cakes from a vintage caravan. I’d got in touch with the owner on Twitter and was really pleased that they wanted to get involved.”

Celebrating business growth

I Am You has achieved significant business growth since it launched as a start-up in 2010. Amanda says,

We really are going from strength to strength. We are now a team of four, whereas when we first moved to Team Valley Business Centre there were just the two of us.

“We are picking up new clients from all over and are now working with our first customer in France, so we are getting used to having meetings via Skype instead of face-to-face.” 

The team at I Am You manage clients’ social media accounts, including Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, when they don’t have time to do it themselves.  They also provide social media workshops and training.

“Our fourth birthday party event was absolutely fabulous,” Amanda continues.

“We had lots of clients and contacts come to visit, including some people I met through networking who I have known for years, so it was really lovely.”
