Harlequins brings international flavours to Altrincham

<p”>The new owners of Harlequins Café at our Atlantic Business Centre in Altrincham are fast gaining a reputation for their tasty, fresh flavours and excellent value.  And now we’ve totally transformed the look of the café area itself; it’s becoming the place to be in the area!</p”>

Farid Jamal’s aim is to show people that it’s possible to have great quality food at a reasonable price – and his customers seem to agree that he’s doing just that.

Born into a hotel-owning family in Mozambique, Farid has worked in hospitality since he was 14, but food has always been his passion.  He and his team of three have introduced Portuguese and Indian flavours to the café, with different daily specials offering customers the opportunity to try a wide range of new dishes, as well as classic favourites.

Home Comforts

“Everything we serve is fresh and home-made. We even make all of the sauces,” he says.

“Since we opened, all our customers have spoken very positively about the taste and presentation of our food, as well as our service and we aim to keep it that way.  I am looking at taking on an extra team member to ensure we keep our same high standards.”

As well as breakfasts – all with a hot drink included – and a range of burgers, Harlequins offers a selection of special dishes.  One of the favourites is a Portuguese dish of steak sausage and ham with a sauce of port brandy and beer which takes 48 hours to make.  Sounds like heaven!  Harlequins also has contracts to serve Nespresso and bottled Coca-Cola.

Something for everyone

Catering for all tastes, the café can make any special as a vegetarian option if pre-ordered, and salads can be prepared with the same fillings as paninis and baguettes, for those who don’t want bread.

Previously, Farid has worked in a number of different hospitality roles.  His last job was as quality and service manager a four-star Manchester hotel, and in the past, he has acted as a consultant project manager in the building of two international hotels.

Professional standards

His love for food brought him to take on the café business and he hopes to see it grow and flourish.
