Businesses urged to seek professional security advice

Businesses are being urged to consult a specialist before installing security measures.
Adrian Platts, spokesman for the Business Crime Reduction Centre (BCRC), which aims to reduce crime by providing advice, signposting and support to businesses in the north-east of England, believes purchasing business security systems can be a daunting challenge.
“Unless businesses have a good level of knowledge and experience with security, it’s unlikely that they will be adequately protected,” he explained.
Mr Platts also noted that the self-installation packages currently on the market are often too simplistic and do not offer a great deal of protection to the businesses installing them.
He added that self-installation security systems often don’t offer the reliability of a professionally installed business grade system and can be a “costly and wasteful experience”.
Businesses were recently warned by security experts Imperva to pay more attention to how employees could endanger their organisation through the removal and trading of sensitive information.
