Air conditioning adjustments can save money

Altering the air conditioning setting in your office space can cut costs.
According to the British Council for Offices (BCO) slight behavioural changes in the workplace can have a major impact on energy usage, which in turn can reduce costs.
At a time when energy costs are rocketing, Paul Edwards, chair of the BDO’s Environmental Sustainability Group and head of sustainability at Hammerson, has said that many offices are running air conditioning “unnecessarily low” which is increasing energy use and ramping up bills.
“Air conditioning is a major consumer of energy,” he explained. “If you can look at the temperatures you’re controlling, ask yourself if you really need to control the room to 20 or 22 degrees.”
He noted that air conditioning can be turned down as workers can still operate comfortably in an office temperature of 24 degrees.
“I know that doesn’t sound a lot, but a two degree difference can greatly reduce your energy consumption,” he added.
A recent study conducted by Lloyds TSB found that 91% of small businesses have taken some steps to reduce energy consumption and become more sustainable.
