Life can be tough for young employees

Young workers often feel undervalued in their role within a company.

Life can be difficult for younger workers in the early stages of their career, businesses looking to rent have been told.

Kevin Friery, clinical director at employee assistance firm Right Corecare, said people under 30 find life particularly challenging as they are often required to do a job they perhaps don’t like.

"The trouble that people in that age group have to cope with is that they may be working in a situation that isn’t their ideal jobs, isn’t the best job in the world, but is a job they have to do to get themselves going or get a foot on the ladder," Mr Friery said.

According to recent research by the Institute for Employment Studies and Newsbeat, those under the age of 30 have been hardest hit by the economic downturn as real wages have fallen faster than any other age group.

Low pay rises, slow economic growth and a rising cost of living make up a "triple whammy" of factors that have started to bite, the research noted.
