The Stroke Association is proud and delighted to have been named as Bizspace Charity of the Year!
An exciting year of events and fundraising is planned across the company for staff and clients alike, all with the aim of raising money to help in the fight against stroke.
A stroke is a clot or a bleed in the brain and can happen to anyone at any time. Stroke is the third biggest killer in the UK and the leading cause of severe adult disability. There are now over a million people living in the UK with long term disabilities as a result of a stroke. One in four of Bizspace’s staff, customers and their families will have a stroke at some point in their lives. When a stroke strikes people are affected in different and often life changing ways; people may lose their speech, their sight, their hearing, their memory or their mobility. Stroke changes your life forever.
A common misconception of stroke is that it is only an older persons condition, however this is simply not the case; a quarter of all strokes happen to those of working age and even children and babies have strokes. Stroke kills three times as many women as breast cancer each year, yet receives a fraction of the funding.
The Stroke Association is the only UK wide charity combating stroke in people of all ages. Our mission is to work for a world where there are fewer strokes and where stroke survivors and their families receive the help and support that they need.
The Bizspace team will be taking part in and organising a number of events throughout the year including Dress Down Fridays, Coffee Mornings / Fruit Cake Fridays and staff members being sponsored to complete as many miles as they can of Running/Walking, Swimming, Cycling and Rowing, on a handicapped points basis:
Points to be awarded and weighted:-
Walk / Run – 1 mile = 1 point
Swim – 1 mile = 3 points
Cycle – 10 miles = 3 points
Rowing – 1 mile = 2 points
