Workers struggling into the office when ill

Businesses have been warned that the practice of presenteeism is causing more and more workers to turn up to work when sick.
As fears continue to grow over job security in the UK, research from Nuffield Health found that workers are prepared to work while ill to maintain an office presence.
However, employees going into work while under the weather in fact costs businesses money, with firms in the UK losing as much as £15 billion through ill members of staff in the workplace.
According to the study of 1,600 workers, 72% have gone to work despite knowing they were sick, with 53% admitting they put their colleagues’ health at risk as they were contagious.
A recent study conducted by Travelodge estimated that as much as £888 million was lost by UK businesses over the festive period due to staff working with hangovers.
