21 days a year wasted on emails

The rapid increase in the number of smartphones possessed by the working population is leading to more and more staff accessing their emails remotely.
This urge to read the latest email and reply instantly is costing people time that should be spent away from work relaxing and recharging the batteries before the next day.
Dr Monica Seeley, international expert on email management, founder of the Mesmo Consultancy Group and author of Brilliant Email, said replying to emails outside of office hours has two main drawbacks.
The first she highlighted is that people are almost compelled to reply instantly to a new email that pops into their inbox, which can be dangerous if they are out of work mode.
There is a danger workers will reply in haste and cause problems for themselves by saying something they probably didn’t mean and wouldn’t say in a work atmosphere.
Dr Seeley went on to say that “there is no need to throw out the work/life balance” by checking emails and working out of hours.
A recent Mesmo Consultancy study revealed that a quarter of workers now expect a response to an email within an hour.
