Businesses urged to think about colour in the office

Start-up businesses have been encouraged to think about the way colours used in their rented office space impacts on the mood and productivity of employees.
Karen Haller, interior designer and colour expert, said that colour is a particularly important design aspect to consider in a workplace, as harmony between tones can create a positive feeling among people in the room.
But she noted that clashing colours can create a jarring effect, which has the potential to foster a negative atmosphere in the workplace.
“By using the right colour for a given function or department, it can create a positive atmosphere – supporting staff, improving morale and motivation.”
She explained that firms should consider using their brand colours in their client-facing areas, a strategy that can “further strengthen their brand message”.
A recent study published in the journal Psychological Science showed that an open office space has the potential to boost creativity as it allows workers to “think outside the box”.
