Third of office relationships end in marriage

Almost a third of relationships between colleagues end in marriage, a new survey of 7,000 workers has found.
The Harris Interactive survey found that 31 per cent of office romances end in wedding bells, with two-fifths of respondents admitting to being involved in an office relationship during their working life.
Rosemary Haefner, vice president of human resources at job site CareerBuilder, which commissioned the survey, said that office romances are “always tricky” and employees must be aware of the company’s policy on relationships in the workplace.
“First and foremost, it is important to know your company’s office dating policy. Remember to stay professional and draw a boundary line between your personal life and the workplace,” she explained.
Almost a fifth even went as far as to date their boss for a period, with female workers more likely to do so.
Despite 40% of workers dating colleagues, most of the romances began outside of the office when colleagues ran into each other after office hours, with lunches, work’s drinks or late nights in the office cited as times when relationships begin.
