Bold businesses are expanding in St. Helens
A number of small and medium-sized businesses are continuing to expand in St. Helens, despite the current economic climate, claims Bizspace, which operates the Bold Business Centre.
St. Helens-based Emerald Ceilings & Partitions has found that the key to its continued expansion, during the current economic downturn, is delivering personal service and outstanding quality of workmanship. The company relocated to the Bizspace centre on Bold Lane two years ago and has just expanded within the centre for the third time.
Founder, John Conroy, comments “We have numerous building contracts across the office, retail and residential sectors and a lot of our business is won by tender. We’ve also developed partnerships with a number of major building contractors who fully appreciate the quality of work we deliver and this is why we’ve got an expanding order book with an increasing number of enquiries despite the so-called downturn.
“Locating our operation to Bizspace was one of the best moves we’ve ever made as we’ve enjoyed the freedom to internally customise our workspace to meet our exact needs. We’ve also enjoyed the flexibility to expand the size of our workspace in line with business growth and we’ve just relocated again, within the centre, to space approx three times the size of our previous workspace to increase the size of our office and storage space.”
Another St. Helens-based company which is continuing on the expansion trail is TerraConsult, an environmental consultancy which started in just one office with four people at the Bold business centre eight years ago. The company has grown continually since then and has just expanded into its sixth new office at the centre and now employs 36 staff.
Founding director, John Martin, comments “we provide a range of geotechnical, environmental and waste management consultancy services to assist our clients protect the environment when they carry out development works. They rely on us to design cost effective engineering works, ensure compliance with the regulatory authorities and to prevent environmental pollution.
“We have developed a good reputation in the industry and in-spite of the economic downturn our sales continue to grow strongly.
“The flexibility provided at the Bizspace centre has allowed us to expand in a cost effective way. The location is also good, within easy commuting distance of Liverpool and Manchester. Being a consultancy, recruiting good staff is key to the success of the business and the location ensures we have access to a large pool of talent.
“Access is also good to the motorway network and there are two international airports nearby which are helping with our growing overseas workload. We can access our offices 24 hours of the day and have found that other companies in the complex provide useful support services. The flexible working environment here has been a big plus and has contributed greatly to our success.”
“With 110 business centres across the UK, including more than 20 in the North West, we are finding that the current financial climate is fuelling increased demand for flexible workspace,” comments Bizspace’s Tamasin Tulloch. “Businesses of all sizes are now finding it harder to make any long term plans and the flexibility we provide removes the headache of long term financial commitments, whilst allowing businesses greater freedom to upsize, downsize or even relocate to meet the demands of their market.”
