Bizspace helps SMEs blow their own trumpet
Many small and medium-sized businesses are continuing to relocate to, and expand within the Northampton area, despite the current economic climate, claims Bizspace, which operates three business centres in Northampton.
First Brass, a fast growing importer, retailer and repairer of musical instruments is typical of the numerous small enterprises that are finding that flexible workspace is the key to continued expansion during the current economic downturn. “We started as a home-based business in 2004 and moved into the Bizspace centre at Moulton Park a year later,” comments Shawn Pagington, First Brass’ managing director, “And the flexibility of terms has allowed us to expand several times during the past three years.
“We specialise in brass musical instruments and have been able to develop a catalogue of more than 500 lines under our own brand, whilst also being able to offer other leading brands. We have developed some exciting niche markets for our products, as there is now little manufacturing of affordable brass instruments in the UK. With central Government pledging more money for musical education we find that schools appreciate the high quality at affordable prices that we provide. In addition, we recently expanded into yet another workshop unit in response to growing demand for dedicated facilities catering for the repair of musical instruments.”
Another company that is beating the recession is The Prospect Factory, which moved into Bizspace’s KG Business Centre in Dallington in November 2008. “We are a brand new telemarketing organisation that assists sales-driven companies to increase turnover and market share,” comments David Gauntlett, managing director, “And we are unique in that we work on a pay-on-results basis with our clients. In essence, if we do not deliver qualified sales appointments, they have nothing to pay – a truly ‘win / win’ marketing solution.
“Dynamic businesses are finding that they need to re-double their marketing activities during the current downturn and as a result we’ve achieved some exciting contract wins that have necessitated us taking space in three adjoining offices and expanding our workforce from four to fourteen employees in just three months. We’ve got ambitious plans for the future and the flexibility provided by Bizspace will provide us with the agility to keep on growing.
“With 110 business centres across the UK, including more than 10 in the Midlands, we are finding that the current financial climate is fuelling increased demand for flexible workspace,” comments Phil Sexton, Bizspace’s Moulton Park centre manager. “Businesses of all sizes are now finding it harder to make any long term plans and the flexibility we provide removes the headache of long term financial commitments, whilst allowing businesses greater freedom to upsize, downsize or even relocate to meet the demands of their market.”
