Bizspace helps Halifax business expand
Trying to prove that not all businesses in West Yorkshire are in the midst of recession is “The Coaster Factory” otherwise known as Industrial Services Calderdale(ISCAL), a factory for people with disabilities that has become one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of printed tissue disposables, such as coasters, dripmats and napkins.
Supported as part of Calderdale Metropolitan Councils employment initiative, Workwise, ISCAL is based at the old biscuit factory in Ovenden that has been re-developed into the Calderdale Business Park by managed workspace operator, Bizspace. “Two thirds of our income is from the manufacture of printed coasters and napkins,” comments James Durkan, Iscal’s business manager, “And the business is now growing and we have brought in some more machinery to increase the production of napkins.
“Around 75% of our workforce have disabilities, and some of them have been with us for more than 25 years. Such is the quality of the work they produce that we are now winning orders from around the world.”
“With 110 business centres across the UK, including six in West Yorkshire, we are finding that the current financial climate is fuelling increased demand for flexible workspace,” comments Debbi Gillham, Bizspace’s Halifax centre manager. “We have a wide range of businesses and charities based here, plus the Halifax & District Table Tennis Centre, and all of our clients appreciate the flexibility we provide, which removes the headache of long term financial commitments, whilst allowing them greater freedom to upsize, downsize or even relocate to meet the demands of their market.”
