Electrical control company charges ahead
in Swindon
Many small and medium-sized businesses are continuing to relocate to, and expand within the Swindon area, despite the current economic climate, claims Bizspace, which operates a business centre in Cheney Manor.
Electrical Control Products, which was founded at the Swindon business centre during the last recession in 1991, has grown continuously over the years and now has a number of export contracts from Africa, the Middle East and even Russia. “Initially we specialised in the distribution of industrial electrical control equipment,” comments managing director, Garry Perkins, “However, as engineers, we started to design, build and install our own range of control systems, ten years ago, and as a result won a number of overseas contracts, which have enabled us to continue to grow the business despite the tough economic climate effecting many other businesses.
“We may be a relatively small company, with a staff of just eight people, but the quality, ingenuity and increasing demand for our products and services proves that you don’t have to be big to be successful in the global marketplace. Interestingly, we moved into the Bizspace centre in Swindon 18 years ago because we were attracted to flexibility offered by the easy-in easy-out concept, but the ability to keep expanding into larger workspace whenever we’ve needed to has meant we’ve never found a reason to leave.”
“With 110 business centres across the UK, we are finding that the current financial climate is fuelling increased demand for flexible workspace,” comments Maureen Harvey, general manager at Bizspace Swindon. “Businesses of all sizes are now finding it harder to make any long term plans and the flexibility we provide removes the headache of long term financial commitments, whilst allowing businesses greater freedom to upsize, downsize or even relocate to meet the demands of their market.”
