Gym gains strong-hold at our Morelands Trading Estate

Gloucester Strength, a gym with a difference at Morelands Trading Estate, has extended and now offers classes from weightlifting to self defence.

A strength and conditioning gym at our Morelands Trading Estate in Gloucester has almost tripled the size of its business unit, allowing for the creation of bespoke areas for its range of classes.

Owner Scott Baldwin launched Gloucester Strength (then known as Limitless Fitness) in June 2013 and he and his team are now putting the finishing touches to the new space they have taken on next door.

Gym with a difference

Scott, who has formerly competed in the Go-Kan-Ryu Karate World Championships, has always been interested in fitness and has been training for around 10 years. He first had the idea to launch Gloucester Strength as he wanted to train for Olympic Weightlifting and realised he could fill a gap to offer training in the Gloucester area.

“We are run a bit differently to a normal gym and one of the first things you will notice is that there are no exercise machines,” Scott says.

“We help athletes to train for sport, as well as the general public who are looking to get fit or tone up. We can help people to prevent injury and to protect their bodies for the rest of their lives.”

The gym offers classes including a strength programme, conditioning circuits, Olympic Weightlifting and Izreal Maga self defence.

“I originally took the unit over from my cousin and we spent several months refurbishing it prior to opening, making lots of improvements,” Scott continues.

“The opportunity came up to take on the unit next door as well and we decided to go for it.  We took down the partition wall and decorated and now it is looking really great.

“It is a big space and the main open studio area will now be in the new section, where we will have our group classes.”

Further works planned

Scott is now planning further works to his original 1,000 sq ft business unit, which is set to include a new weightlifting area.

“The Bizspace team have been really helpful in assisting me with this phase of the works,” says Scott.

“They have seen all the hard work I have put into the unit, but this time it will be a more complex procedure as we need to build around a slope that is an original feature of the space.  We want to keep part of it in, so that we can accommodate disabled power lifting in the future. Everyone has the right to keep fit.

“Bizspace have agreed to fund the materials for the work and we will be paying for the labour.”

Gloucester Strength will also soon be launching ‘Little Lifters’ – a club for juniors aged 12-18 who would like to get into weightlifting or strength training.
