Hooton raises almost £700 for cancer charity

The staff at Hooton Business Centre raised almost £700 for a cancer charity

The fantastic folks at our Hooton Business Centre in Ellesmere Port have raised almost £700 for a cancer charity in a weekend of special events.

On Friday the team banished the rainy day blues with a fundraising garden party and networking event.  Because of the gloomy weather, the event was held in the large meeting room, with patio doors opened to the gardens.  A gazebo outside also provided shelter for guests to enjoy cakes, fruit, snacks and drinks in return for a donation.

“It was a fun afternoon and we had some of our newest customers attend as well, so it was great for them to get to meet everyone,” says Business Centre Administrator, Vicki Buckingham, who organised the event.

Vicki also got a team of customers together to enter the Wirral Bikeathon which took place on Sunday at Arrowe Country Park.  In total, almost 1400 cyclists took park in the event which raised money for blood cancer charity, Bloodwise.

Team effort

Joining Vicki in the cycling event was Mike Vesey, Managing Director of civil engineering firm Grantreel Construction, and his two daughters, Nicole aged nine, and six-year-old Leila.  Michelle Cassidy of MW Pensions took part as well, along with her daughter.  The pair were happy to be raising money for a charity close to their hearts.

“It was a fantastic event and the kids really enjoyed it too,” says Mike, whose family company moved into Hooton Business Centre in 2003.

“We were wanting to take part anyway and when Vicki sent out flyers we thought it would be nice to do it as part of a team.  We’ll definitely take part again next year and we want to try the 28 mile course next time, as we only did the 14 miles this time round.”

All the youngsters who took part did fantastically well, Vicki adds.

“The course was very well designed to be challenging, yet still suitable for children,” she says.

“We were lucky as the weather stayed nice, with just one small shower, but that was quite a welcome relief!  We’re wanting to make this an annual event for customers to get involved and hopefully next year even more people will take part.”
