Activities for an Easter in isolation

Easter is usually a time that families are together, spending quality time, playing and eating chocolate! Even though people across the nation are in isolation this Easter, we can continue that tradition. Check out our list of ideas and activities – not just for kids, but adults too – that you can do this holiday.

Plan your Easter itinerary, write a shopping list of your essentials and go. Let the fun commence!

Easter egg hunt

If you want to throw the best Easter egg hunt, check out this guide from BBC Good Food. These can be done both inside and out in the garden, so it’s the perfect activity for a weekend in isolation.

We’re set to have a beautiful weekend, so if you decide to take your hunt to the garden, make sure you hide your eggs in cool, dry places. And remember, if you have pets, ensure they can’t get to the chocolate!

Baking

Baking at Easter is a beloved tradition, and it’s ideal now we’re inside most of the day. There are hundreds of themed recipes out there but here are a few of our favourites: simple Mini Egg Cornflake nests, decadent carrot cake cupcakes, rich Creme Egg rocky road, and of course, tasty hot cross buns.

Boiled egg decorating

It’s that classic primary school activity. While it might sound strange to decorate an egg, it’s a well-known craft and eggshells are porous, making for a great blank canvas. Get creative with a theme, paint, pens, chalk, pipe cleaners, feathers, sequins, diamantes and googly eyes.

Board games

No more dust – shake off those board games you’ve neglected over the last year and beat the boredom this weekend. For most games, all you need to have is two or more players, so it’s the perfect solution whether you’re isolating with a buddy or even the whole family.

TV

Of course, we couldn’t miss this one (although we recommend doing a few of the other activities first!) Netflix has the following festive favourites available right now:

The brand new Disney+ is full of feel-good family films, programmes and documentaries. As well as Disney, the platform also features entertainment from brands such as Pixar, Marvel, National Geographic and Star Wars, and is offering a 7-day free trial – perfect for over the Easter weekend.

Family and friends video call

If you’re isolated from family and friends, remember to give them a call this weekend. Try using WhatsApp, FaceTime, or for bigger groups try Zoom, Google Meets or House Party

You can also organise fun activities like Easter-themed competitions and quizzes, try out some arts and crafts, build cosy blanket forts, try DIY spa treatments and face masks, plan holidays you want to take in the future, and print the BizSpace Colouring Book for a few hours of fun.

If you have children (or are big kids yourselves!), spice up the competitions with treats and prizes like golden eggs or trophies. Build your own trophy and keep it for next year too – it could be the start of a new Easter tradition.

While spending Easter in isolation may seem daunting at first, it’s a perfect way to spend time with the ones you love. Reach out to the people you care about outside your household, and try out some fun activities this weekend.
