Alex is running Miles for Men
Centre Manager Alex Wilkie is fundraising by taking part in the Miles for Men 5km run on 12th October at Aintree racecourse. Here's why.
One of our centre managers is fundraising by taking part in the Miles for Men 5km run on 12th October at Aintree racecourse.
Alex Wilkie, who manages several of our sites around Liverpool, ran in the event last year, so is aiming to beat his time of 28 minutes and fundraising total of £125.
Alex was in the military for 37 years, so is no stranger to running, has said he’s not doing any extra training for the run.
“I play two hours of squash twice a week, so that’s enough to keep my levels of fitness up” says Alex.
“My son and his friend are running with me again. Last year I managed to beat them even though I’m older and I hadn’t trained, while they had. My son got a stitch part way through, so he’s determined to beat me this time.”
Supporting research into male cancers
Miles for Men is a charity that raises funds for cancer charities across the UK, by holding male-only runs around the UK.
Alex says, “I’m running to support work to prevent prostate cancer. We don’t have a history of it in my family, but it doesn’t seem to get as much coverage as other cancers.”
“I’d like to help our regional Bizspace charity, MacMillan Cancer too though, so anything raised over £100 will go to them.”
You can sponsor Alex via his Just Giving page.
