Basingstoke-based ACG architects: award-winning and ever-growing
Ayre Chamberlain Gaunt architects are an award-winning architectural company with a wide range of experience across many sectors and building types. Based in our Basingstoke business centre, this company knows a thing or two about buildings and design. We hear from David Ayre, Director at Ayre Chamberlain Gaunt architects, about their current workload and ambitious growth plans.
Formed in 2005 from humble beginnings as a garage start-up, Ayre Chamberlain Gaunt has grown into a 45-strong team with studios in Basingstoke and London. In 2017, they received the European ‘Young Architect of the Year Award’ and were also the proud winners of the RIBAJ MacEwen Award for The Point, a modern and playful community centre designed in close collaboration with the residents of Tadley, Hampshire.
“We’re known for our innovative designs and ability to deliver highly crafted, commercially sound buildings. With over a decade of experience and a broad portfolio of work, including large-scale mixed-use, residential, build-to-rent, commercial, and education projects, we are continually growing, pushing boundaries and delivering inspiring architecture.”

With so much success over the years, they strongly believe that the culture and people are the core of the company.
“Our people are our greatest asset and we invest heavily in training and technology to empower the team. We foster a culture of cross-collaboration between studios to ensure every project draws on the talent within the practice.”
Collaborations
Over the years, the practice has worked on a number of exciting projects. Schemes currently in development include:
- A mixed-use 20-storey tower in Wandsworth, London for Strawberry Star Developments and Workspace Group
- A highly sustainable, landscape-led housing development in north London
- Memorial Hall, Marlborough College where they are working alongside Diamond Schmitt to sensitively refurbish and retrofit the Grade II listed auditorium
“We are also working on a number of build-to-rent schemes in London and the South of England, several ‘later living’ schemes and a series of projects in the education sector.”

Expansion
Aside from their exciting projects, Ayre Chamberlain Gaunt has experienced huge growth.
“In summer last year we opened a central London studio to help service the growing number of projects we are involved with in the capital. We also grew the Hampshire team and moved into our new space in Belvedere House.
Having moved into our Basingstoke site we asked why they choose BizSpace to situate their ever-growing company.
“It was our goal to create a purpose-designed ‘creative space’ that suits our team’s specific needs while retaining the one-practice structure and vibrant studio culture. BizSpace has allowed us to achieve this.”
