Bizspace lends muscle to Bolton Strongman event

We’ll be lending some muscle to Bolton’s Strongman 2014 event as we become one of the official sponsors.

Spectators can expect to see some of the UK’s strongest men and women compete in various weight categories, lifting car axles, giant railway sleepers, loading sandbags onto platforms and pushing and pulling heavy vehicles.

While we will be supporting the event for the first time, the competition is now in its fourth year. Due to popularity, it has grown from a small one-day event to an action packed two-day occasion that encourages everybody to come along.

Paul Ogle, Manager of our centre in Bolton, explained why we got involved:

The Bolton Strongman event has become increasingly popular year after year and here at the Halliwell Business Park we like to support community spirited activities.

“Locally, there’s a real buzz about the event and we’re really pleased to be a part of the fun. We’ve even had special banners designed to tie in with the theme of the contest.”

From humble beginnings

The Strongman Bolton competition began on a small school playground back in 2010 and has grown to become one of the largest and best attended of its kind in UK.

This summer’s contest promises to be the biggest yet, with more than 50 men and women travelling to Bolton to compete from throughout the UK.

The most hotly anticipated part of the weekend will be the ‘deadlift’ event. This is where athletes attempt to lift weights of up to 300kg – the equivalent of picking up three 16-stone men!

Paul continued: “Bolton Strongman 2014 is free to watch, but it’s not just a spectator sport. There’ll be entertainment, music, dance and a real party atmosphere.

“Unfortunately, my physique doesn’t meet the requirements to enter the competition, but it is a great opportunity for people in the community to get together.”
