Luxury Sports Magazine Kicks off with BizSpace

Creating a magazine for elite sports stars has become a thriving business for two BizSpace customers.

Liam Milburn and Andrew Davidson both had a background in sports publishing and marketing when they came up with the idea of starting a premium publication specifically for professional footballers and other high-level athletes.

When the pair first moved into Albion House, in North Shields, in October 2015, they occupied the smallest office. But since then, the business has expanded rapidly and Sports World Magazine has moved twice into larger premises to accommodate its growing team, completing a hat-trick of units.

Moving up the table

Liam, Sports World Magazine’s Managing Director, says

“We started off with myself, Andrew and a designer. We now have a bigger office with additional sales staff, designers, journalists, contributors and columnists and huge partnerships around the world that help put our product together and make it the premier lifestyle magazine for the players and elite sports stars.” 

The high-end magazine is produced quarterly and both print and digital versions are delivered directly to footballers and other successful professional sportspeople. It is also distributed to every professional football club in the UK, as well as a number of golf clubs, luxury hotels, bars and restaurants, top-tier rugby clubs and other locations.

Liam adds: “Alongside exclusive interviews with the biggest names in the industry and the people behind the scenes, the magazine also includes the latest cutting-edge fashion, luxury travel, business news and innovative products and services.

“We have worked with world superstars such as Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor to name a couple as well as top professional players such as John Terry, Dele Ali, Alan Shearer and Jermain Defoe.”

The business also includes a luxury concierge service called SWM Concierge, which is aligned with the magazine and driven by social media. The service is aimed at professional sportspeople and individuals with a high net-worth.

Perfect position

Albion House, in West Percy Street, North Shields, offers a range of business accommodation, including 28 offices and studios of different sizes.

Liam explains: “We chose Albion House for our location as we wanted to be close to a town centre with free parking and easy accessibility, that also allowed flexibility in working hours.”
