Meet Chris, Founder and Hypnotherapist at Chris Chilton Hypnotherapy | BizFaces

Meet Chris Chilton, Founder and Hypnotherapist at Chris Chilton Hypnotherapy, based out of BizSpace Littlehampton. As well as being an established and passionate problem-solver, Chris loves clay pigeon shooting and walking on his local beach. Discover what makes his business buzz during this interview at our centre in February 2020.

Can you tell us about your service?

I am a Hypnotherapist. That means I help people with personal, emotional and habitual problems, by exploring the feelings behind the problem in order to then help resolve it. So, my product is unique to me and my service is to transform lives – plenty of reviews to back me up on this!

When did you start your business and why?

July 2019 – I spent many years in a different industry but was dead set on making a difference to people’s lives, just like so many other new businesses aim to do too. It was a lot of work but a lot of fun too! Having always been fascinated by the power of the human mind, hypnotherapy really found me.

What sets your business apart from others?

So often in medicine, people are treated for their symptom/s, but I go further to treat the cause. By taking the time to really and truly find out what makes someone tick, I burrow to the root cause of their problem.

Usually, someone will come to me saying they have a problem with “X”, but when we explore it, the cause is something that previously was seen as totally detached from the situation. Even so, it has been driving the symptom of today, and while the cause can be recent, often it goes way, way back.

What were some of your early challenges?

Marketing! I had challenges actually getting the word out locally that I am here. That was until I found the right marketeer who truly understands what I do and why I do it. It’s no good solely relying on yourself for everything – sometimes you have to trust other people to help you realise your goals.

What’s a recent success or hurdle your business has overcome?

I was spending a lot of money on advertising with little return until someone guided me in a different direction. This new direction has made all the difference for my business and had a huge impact on the number of enquiries I now receive.

What’s next on the horizon for your business?

My next goal is to move further into the corporate wellbeing space. Staff welfare is such an important thing which can be overlooked by employers, but the cost of employees being off sick with stress, mental health and wellbeing issues is phenomenal. Now, the gravity of the hypnotherapy methods that I use are being recognised as they can massively improve mental wellness.

How long have you been with BizSpace?

On the 1st July 2019, I started full-time at my local BizSpace to allow me to set up a professional clinical space that reflects what I am trying to achieve with my hypnotherapy business.

Why did you choose BizSpace?

The location and its convenience, and the general ambience and atmosphere of the building. It’s open whenever I need it and very secure. As a vibrant and lively working environment, BizSpace is somewhere that I’m proud to have clients to visit me at. Not to forget the excellence in management of the centre. The manager is a very approachable person who is incredibly helpful, and nothing is too much trouble for him.

Being at BizSpace has allowed my business to grow – I’ve even found other people in this centre who have helped.

What are your top 3 tips for people wanting to start their own business?

As a small business owner, Chris is in a great position to advise those thinking of starting their own business. Here are his top three tips:

1. Talk to competitors outside of your geographical area
All pride aside, you’ll be surprised at how open to helping budding business people they are. You can take their tips and avoid their mistakes.

2. Ask customers, clients and partners what they really want
And don’t just offer what you think they want! From this you can customise your offering and keep everyone happy.

3. YOU have to be your own USP

It’s what will convince clients to choose you over your competitors.
