Our director is ‘ROLE’ model for female businesswomen

Our Sales and Marketing Director, Emma Long, is helping to encourage and inspire female businesswomen by supporting a new social enterprise.

Our Sales and Marketing Director, Emma Long, has extended her work helping to encourage and inspire female businesswomen by supporting a new social enterprise. She has recently accepted an invitation to become a mentor for ROLE, which is on a mission to ensure that every woman in the UK has a career role model.

The ambitious campaign is the brainchild of self-made businesswoman and serial entrepreneur Wendy Bowers and is supported by the British Chambers of Commerce and Barclays.

Wendy says “Women are good for business – companies with more than 30% female board members demonstrate profits up 48% and company values up 35%. So the fact that there are so few women in the most senior roles is bad news for Britain. ROLE is here to change all that forever.”

Team of experts

ROLE is currently recruiting male and female ambassadors from industry, education and the media, across the UK. This expert team will mentor junior and middle managers taking ROLE Chartered Management Institute qualifications, giving them the confidence to become the chief executives and company directors of tomorrow.

Wendy continues, “These ambassadors are people who have made it to the very top of their profession or sector. I was introduced to Emma who is perfect to be a ROLE ambassador. We will put her in touch with a candidate for mentoring and Emma will work closely with them over a six to nine month period. She will be able to share her experience of rising to a senior level in a male-dominated industry and help give them the confidence to succeed in their career.”

Sharing knowledge and experience

Emma is also an active member of the Association of Women in Property and mentors for the CIPD and The Aspire Foundation.

“I am very passionate about encouraging others to follow their dreams and achieve their goals and I find it a pleasure to be able to help people in that way,” she says.

It is easy to take our life experience for granted, but sharing knowledge and advice and taking the time to support someone on their career path can make a world of difference.

“I also find it a fantastic learning experience for me personally. I am very excited about working with ROLE and being a part of its inspirational mission.”

ROLE will be holding a training event, called Women on the Ladder, in Carnforth on Wednesday 10 September 2014.
