Pool Sharks have a ‘ball’ for charity
Our on-site pool hall at Price Street Business Centre in Birkenhead has raised pots of cash for one of our chosen charities.
Our Price Street Business Centre in Birkenhead raised ‘pots’ of cash for charity at the on-site pool hall.
Price Street Sports Lounge, which features a bar and Sharks Pool Hall, has been open at the centre for eight years and hosted a friendly tournament in aid of one of Bizspace’s chosen charities, Macmillan Cancer Care.
“I approached the owners about holding the tournament as I thought it would be something quite different that a lot of our customers could get involved with,” Business Centre Manager, Neil Williamson says.
“We had a great turnout of 24 entrants and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day. It was a good atmosphere and an opportunity for our customers to get to know one another better, as well as to raise money for a very worthwhile cause.
“A huge thank you to the owners of the pool hall who allowed us to use the tables free of charge and had collection buckets on the bar all through the week.”
Friendly competition
The final of the tournament was fought out between Sharks regular Chez, and Price Street customer Iain Colwell who sculpts miniature models. Iain went on to take home the trophy and more than £150 was raised on the day.
Price Street Sports Lounge is popular both with locals and visitors from around Merseyside who use the facilities to practice, socialise and join teams. Co-owner Tommy Evans says,
Price Street is a great location for us as it’s so convenient
“There’s obviously a lot of businesses on the site already who come and have a game, and there are good car parking facilities for our customers.”
Many Merseyside county league players practice and play at Sharks. Its in-house teams are also riding high, with its Naturals team recently winning the Wallasey League first division and another two of its teams finishing in second and third place.
“We have lots of high quality players coming here, including two young lads who are in the England junior team. A lot of kids come up through the ranks here,” Tommy says.
A business community
Our Price Street Business Centre comprises 55 commercial units which are already home to a wide range of Wirral businesses, including a gym and auction house. Units can be accessed 24 hours a day with key-fob controls and a large car park is available on site.
