Rainbow light show marks charity’s arrival

One of our business centres has been given a rainbow makeover to mark the arrival of a new customer.

On Saturday 30 April, North Sands Business Centre in Sunderland was lit up in all the colours of the rainbow. The impressive light display was carried out to welcome Rainbow Trust, a charity that offers support to families of children with a terminal or life-threatening illness, which has just moved into the purpose-built business centre.

Fiona Walker, Family Support Manager at Rainbow Trust, says: “We were so excited to see the building all lit up in rainbow colours.”

And the light show was extra special for the charity, as it is celebrating its 30^th birthday this year. Rainbow Trust was founded in 1986 by Bernadette Cleary OBE to offer emotional and practical support for families looking after seriously ill youngsters.

Central location

Fiona explains the important role of the charity.

“The support we offer comes from Family Support Workers who try to maintain a sense of normality for the family, helping with hospital trips, clinic visits, ward support, emotional support to siblings, school visits etc,” she says.

“The North East Team has moved into Sunderland following over 15 years in a Durham-based office. We moved to Sunderland to be more central, as the North East area covers from Northumberland down to Redcar and Cleveland.”

The light show was carried out by The Undefined Group, another of our customers based at nearby Team Valley Business Centre. The business is a creative theatre and event production company, which specialises in creating memorable events and shows. The company had already lit up the Team Valley centre before offering to do the same in Sunderland.

The Undefined Group first produces 3D CAD designs before recreating this in real life, creating eye-catching visual spectacles.

Lynne Oliver, Business Centre Manager at North Sands, had approached customers for their ideas on a theme for the light show.

She comments: “I sent an email around asking our tenants to get involved with suggestions of what colours and images they would like projected onto the building. The obvious red and white football colours came back from all the blokes but coincidently, that same week we had a new customer move in called Rainbow Trust and they suggested rainbow colours to depict their arrival in our building. It worked out beautifully.”

The business centre features a host of facilities, including five meeting rooms that can be let by the hour, 24-hour site access, breakout areas, a café, mailing and photocopying services and a friendly on-site team.
