The best places to work from home ranked: celebrity isolation houses

As the regulations across the country tighten, we are spending increasing lengths of time inside. Media personalities are facing criticism on social media as they indulge us in their lives, forcing us to watch them parade around their home cinemas, swimming pools and extravagant wine cellars.

But their houses certainly look like the ideal spots to be working remotely in at the moment, and after seeing the number of personalities giving us glimpses into their homes on social media, it got us thinking; when faced with self isolation, which would be best suited to to run a business, and which home is the best to work from remotely?

So, to put their content to good use, we decided to rate these extravagant homes on their features to find out which space and location really is the ideal home during this time. We ranked our findings based on location, size, comfort, design and facilities.

1. Hailey and Justin Bieber

Despite Justin Bieber urgently wanting to sell this luxurious home, it is one we would be more than happy to spend our isolation period in. With a basement containing a mini wine cellar, foosball table and slush puppy machine, coffee breaks would never be the same again.

We gave this home 15/25 overall. The home scores poorly for design, with model figures and colourful skateboards covering the walls – poor taste when hosting video meetings. Despite this, the vast space makes it a comfortable place to sit at a desk and the swimming pool adds a level of leisure to the next few weeks at home, giving the home an overall modest score.

2. Gigi Hadid

At just 24 years old, Gigi has bagged herself an apartment in New York. With two bedrooms and two bathrooms, Gigi’s house is one of the most down to earth we have seen from our celebs.

The £3.09 million house scores well for location; just a stone’s throw away from many major players in New York. However, the space lags behind the other homes for facilities and size, which might make working, living and sleeping in the same space feel a little claustrophobic after a while.

3. Kim and Kanye West

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have gone for a neutral palette living experience with simplistic designs, making it hard to believe they raise four children in the home. The couple have a second secret kitchen in their house – a restaurant-esque setting where professional chefs prepare meals for the family. The house is said to cost £20 million and has since been renovated twice.

With two swimming pools, two spas and a vineyard, we could certainly see ourselves hunkering down here for a few weeks to work. The house scores well for size, great for having video meetings without disturbing others. The elaborate hallway on its own is enough room for a family of four to live comfortably, so will be great for nipping out for unexpected calls. The minimalist design lowers the comfort score, but the house wins back points for the wild number of facilities that will make lunchtime worth taking. Overall, the home scores a respectable 16/25.

4. Rihanna

With a swimming pool, cinema and six bedrooms, Rihanna’s house is said to have cost her at least £5 million. This laid back house scores highly for design and facilities, seemingly ideal for friends wishing to spend this period together – but perhaps not ideal for working as there could be too many distractions. This is, of course, just one of many houses Rihanna owns. She also has a seven bedroom, £15 million home, as well as an 11,000 square feet pad in LA…

5. Khloe Kardashian

When we think of the places we’d like to self-isolate, a $7.2 million home in California comes pretty close to the top. Khloe Kardashian has a vast gym with facilities that could easily replicate the experience of a traditional, non-home gym. Complete with treadmills, a smith machine, stairmasters and an adjustable lat pulldown machine, it would be perfect for unwinding and letting off steam after a day of working hard on the laptop. The home also has a huge cinema room for catching up on all your Netflix, giving it a high facility and size score, although the plush design isn’t quite to our taste. With design and comfort only slightly letting the home down, Khloe Kardashian beats her sister Kim, reaching 18/25.

6. Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen DeGeneres has been giving viewers a closer look into her home recently, showing off the clean design and neat accessories it comes with. The home offers a personal home gym and infinity pool looking over the horizon, but fails to score as high for facilities as some of the other mansions.

With most other homes providing more exciting aspects than Ellen’s, this home scores a modest 19/25. The design and size are comfortable, making the spacious house ideal for a relaxing isolation period, but perhaps not ideal for the lack of space to work remotely.

7. Jennifer Lopez

JLo is currently social distancing with Rodriguez and their four children. With photos showing that the house provides a swimming pool, indoor basketball court, screening room and in-ground trampoline, you wouldn’t be short of things to fill your time with in this house – perhaps distracting from remote work responsibilities.

The home received top score for the facilities and design, but fell short as the back garden of this home has been repeatedly compared to that of the movie Parasite, which is not conducive of the creative thinking space needed to work from home.

8. Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga’s home in Malibu scores an automatic five for facilities as the only home in the ranking to have its own safe room built into the estate. The $22.5 million house also features a horse stable, two-lane bowling alley, saltwater infinity pool and a home theatre, of course. With five bedrooms, seven bathrooms and a wine cellar, there is plenty of room for hiding away to take video calls or get reports finished in peace. The design and comfort scores let the house down slightly, but nevertheless, we could happily spend our isolation period working away in this Malibu pad.

9. Victoria and David Beckham

Worried about isolating with your parents? Victoria and David Beckham’s eldest son, Brooklyn, doesn’t have that problem as he has decided to stay in their £31 million London home whilst the rest of the family self-isolate in their Cotswolds retreat. WIth a gym and wine cellar at his disposal, we are sure Brooklyn will get on just fine without them.

The Cotswolds home scores well for facilities, holding a private tennis court, hot tub and private gym. The spacious barn also holds nine-bedrooms, an open fireplace and a wood burning pizza oven for authentic Italian pizza. The rustic feel and unique design of this home give it an almost perfect overall score of 22/25.

10. Kourtney Kardashian

Kourtney Kardashian has an incredible playhouse for her children along with a swimming pool, log fire and floor-to-ceiling shoe collection. The six-bedroom mansion scores well for size and facilities, with the home featuring a lift, gym and massage room (although we aren’t sure what use the massage room would be in the current situation). It seems like the perfect place to relax after a stressful day in the home office.

With this Kardashian having a passion for interior design, the home picks up 5 points here too thanks to the edgy and arty office feel, giving the house an almost perfect overall score. At 23/25, this is our top remote working spot.

  • Location: 3

  • Size: 5

  • Comfort: 5

  • Design: 5

  • Facilities: 5

  • Total score: 23

So, with Justin and Hailey Bieber scoring a modest 15/25 and Kourtney Kardashian beating her two sisters with 23/25, it seems the key to creating the ideal isolation home is keeping the interior simple, and providing enough activities to keep us busy and entertained during downtime.
